"It has always been my dream to be a race driver,” David Quiroga (LDE '12) told us, “I had been trying to get an opportunity to break into the sport for about 10 years. The calls for applications to the Nissan GT Academy opened in Mexico in 2014 for the first time and it was my brother Andrés who insisted that I should try.”

He managed to get to the last stage of the national final, among more than 28,200 Mexican candidates. Unfortunately, he did not crown as champion and thus did not go to the international final.

After coming back to Monterrey, I started reflecting on what I had lacked and on my weaknesses, and throughout 2015 I worked on them as I prepared myself for the second Mexican edition of Nissan GT Academy," he continued his narration

He became the 2015 national champion and was called to compete at the August international final in Silverstone, England, where he managed to classify as a Nismo official driver (Nissan race division).

It was a very hard year for me, full of challenges and sacrifices, but thanks to it I achieved the level I needed to become a national champion and really have a chance in Silverstone, like Ricardo Sánchez (first Mexican to be crowned as international champion), whom I consider a good friend and a great role model to follow, did in 2014.” David said to us.

The event was held in various racetracks, with physical tests, reflex tests, medical tests, and in-car driving tests. There were competitions in Formula 3000, Formula 1600, Le Mans, Caterham, buggies, 370z racing cars, GTR, and 370Z Nismo, and even in Monster Trucks.

About the results in Silverstone, David commented: "I placed third for Mexico in these competitions, where it is not just important to be physically fit and good behind the steering wheel, but also to have luck on your side. Unfortunately, I was a little short on luck on two occasions, but despite that I managed to win third place, which is quite good. And I feel very happy about it because it is a competition in which only the best in the world participate.”

As one of his upcoming plans, David will seek support from sponsors to undertake a project as an international professional racer. We know he will succeed in it.
