Announcement | Avoid traveling

San Pedro Garza García, March 11, 2020

Dear members of the UDEM community,

In light of the recent statement from the World Health Organization declaring coronavirus COVID-19 a pandemic, the Universidad de Monterrey urges you to avoid domestic and international travel, as much as possible, during the upcoming long weekend of March 14-16.

If you need to travel for personal reasons, we ask you to strictly apply the following general health and hygiene measures:

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly.
  • Avoid shaking hands and kissing as a greeting.
  • Use alcohol-based solutions as hand sanitizers.
  • Cover your mouth with the inner crook of your elbow when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid crowded areas as much as possible.
  • Avoid being in the presence of people with any respiratory symptoms.

As regards institutional international trips, they continue to be canceled until further notice.

If you need to travel internationally for personal reasons, we remind you that you will be subject to the following reincorporation measures:

  • Remain in isolation and under observation for 14 days, in order to detect any symptoms.
  • Insofar as possible, do not attend classes or carry out any other in-person activities at the campus in order to reduce the risk of contagion in case you are a carrier of the virus.
  • If you present any symptoms, go to a health facility to have the necessary tests done and, if necessary, receive adequate treatment.
  • Your academic director or immediate boss will give you instructions regarding your return to work or study.

We kindly ask you to keep abreast of this topic through the official communication channels of the Organización Mundial de Salud (OMS) [World Health Organization (WHO)], the Secretaría de Salud del Gobierno de la República (Health Secretariat of the Mexican Government) and the la Secretaría de Salud del Gobierno del Estado de Nuevo León (Health Secretariat of the Government of the state of Nuevo León), which constantly keep their information up-to-date and issue instant reports.

Likewise, we ask you to stay attentive to the University’s official communication media to keep posted and informed of subsequent actions.

Sincerely,
Universidad de Monterrey
