Sergio Humberto García Rodríguez
ExaUDEM Sergio Humberto García Rodríguez (LDE '94) is a Mexican entrepreneur and a native of Reynosa, Tamaulipas.
From 2014 to date, he has been dedicated to developing the Aqua-Tots Swim Schools franchise in Mexico and Latin America. He has opened two branches in Mexico, one in Plaza Nativa, right next to UDEM, and another one in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.
Thanks to his tenacity and effort, Sergio has received two awards in the state of Texas. First, he received the “Orgullo Fronterizo Mexicano” prize, awarded by the Mexican consulate in McAllen, Texas. Then, he received the “State of Texas Small Business Award”, granted by the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott.
Both awards were given to him for developing Aqua-Tots Swim Schools, a franchise that he and his wife, Gabriela, operate in southern Texas and of which they already run five branches in McAllen, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, and Laredo, in addition to developing the brand for Mexico and Latin America.
Among his personal achievements, Sergio includes starting a family: “My wife, Gabriela Ballesteros, and my four children, Sergio Humberto, Jorge Alberto, Marcelo, and Mariana, are my constant motivation,” he told us, “as for work, I feel very happy to have found these two businesses, which represented a very big challenge at first because I didn’t know much about them. Thank God, both businesses have been very successful and innovative.”
Our ExaUDEM concluded by inviting our current students to always follow the basic principles, those they learn at UDEM, such as humanism, honesty, and determination. "Remember that in order to reach our goals we have to go through many failures before, so we can learn from our mistakes,” he finished.
