Are you coming to UDEM on a single-semester exchange?

The type of visa that you need is “Visitor with non-remunerative activity.”

Consult the website of the corresponding embassy or consulate to learn about the specific requirements.

General requirements:

  • Original passport that is valid for at least three months longer than your intended stay in Mexico. Photocopies of the main pages (personal data, expiration date, and photograph) .

  • Visa application form, duly completed and bearing your signature. The application form is available at the website of the corresponding embassy or consulate.

  • Acceptance letter from UDEM. Sometimes you will be asked to submit a photocopy and sometimes they will keep the original document. Because of this, we suggest that you always keep a copy.

  • You must prove financial solvency and that you can provide yourself with at least USD$300 per month.

  • If the holders of the bank account that you will be using for proof of financial solvency are your parents, you must submit the banking certificate and a letter of promise from your parents in which they pledge to provide to support you financially during the duration of your stay in Mexico. If you have a scholarship, you must submit a letter of proof that includes the amount of your scholarship.

  • Photographs (the format and number vary in each embassy and consulate).

Upon your arrival if you have a visa

For restricted countries

When you arrive at the first port of entry into Mexico (airport):

  1. You will receive a Multiple Immigration Form (Forma Migratoria Múltiple – FMM) from your airline or at the first port of entry. You must duly complete this form. Check “Otro” (Other) in the box that asks your purpose of travel and “Visitante actividad no remunerada” (Visitor with non-remunerative activities) in “Estancia Máxima hasta 180 días” (Maximum stay 180 days).

  2. When you arrive at the first port of entry, show your Multiple Immigration Form (FMM) to the federal agent, along with your “Visitor – Non-remunerative activity” (Visitante actividad no remunerada) visa (which is attached to your passport), and your UDEM acceptance letter. You should tell the agent that you are in Mexico to study.

  3. Make sure that the Federal Immigration Officer acknowledges “Visitante actividad no remunerada” (Visitor – Non-remunerative activity” in the box that reads “Estancia máxima hasta 180 días” (Maximum stay 180 days) on your Immigration Form. Also, make sure that he/she stamps your student visa.

Important: It is essential that your Immigration Form (FMM) be marked “Visitante actividad no remunerada” (Visitor – Non-remunerative activity) to normalize your stay in Mexico. If “Other” is not checked in your form, you will be required to leave Mexico and ensure that your FMM is correctly filled out when you return to the country.

You should exit the first port of entry with your FMM correctly filled in and a stamp in your passport.

Upon your arrival if you do not have a visa

Non-restricted countries

When you arrive at the first point of entry into Mexico (airport):

  2. When you arrive at the first port of entry, show your Multiple Immigration Form (FMM) to the federal agent, along with your UDEM acceptance letter and tell the officer that you are in the country to study.

Some immigration agents will ask you for proof of financial solvency, for this reason we recommend that you bring a bank account statement that shows a balance of at least USD$900 or the equivalent sum in your currency or in Mexican pesos. We also suggest that you have proof of scholarship if you are a scholarship recipient.

You should exit from the first port of entry with your FMM correctly filled in.
