Announcement | General recommendations

San Pedro Garza García, March 6, 2020

Dear UDEM community,

In order to protect the health and well-being of our university community, UDEM is closely monitoring the epidemiological condition caused by the new COVID-19 coronavirus.

Listed below are the preventative measures to be undertaken at the University:

International travel

All institutional international trips have been canceled until further notice.

If you need to travel internationally for personal reasons, you must inform the director of your area or your immediate boss about your departure and return plans.

Upon your return from an international trip, you will be subject to the reincorporation protocol, which may include, without limitation, the following measures:

  • Remaining in isolation and under observation for 15 days, in order to detect any possible symptoms.
  • Insofar as possible, telecommute (work from home) to reduce the risk of contagion in case you are a carrier of the virus.
  • If you present any symptoms, go to a health facility to have the necessary tests done and, if necessary, receive adequate treatment.
  • The director of your area or immediate boss will give you instructions regarding your return to work.

For now, traveling on domestic flights will be left to your personal discretion. Meanwhile, the institution is monitoring and will continue to monitor the evolution of COVID-19 in the country.

Massive events (conferences, talks, exhibitions, etc.) already scheduled will proceed as planned, until further notice. However, it is important to reinforce the following recommendations on general health and hygiene among attendees:

General health and hygiene recommendations

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly.
  • Avoid shaking hands and kissing as a greeting.
  • Use alcohol-based solutions as hand sanitizers.
  • Cover your mouth with the inner crook of your elbow when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid crowded areas as much as possible.
  • Avoid being in the presence of people with any respiratory symptoms.

It is important to bear in mind that this disease has symptoms similar to those of the flu or a cold, such as a high fever, a dry cough, fatigue and lack of energy. If you present any of these symptoms, we ask you to go to the Centro de Salud Integral (center for comprehensive health) or to see your private physician in order to positively identify the disease present and receive adequate treatment to prevent spreading contagion.
