ID 1515 Effective Communication in Business English

By the end of this course, students will be acquainted with and understand the business culture of other countries as well as internationally accepted procedures, rules and etiquette.  The course aims to examine and critique effective communication techniques and  inculcate the appreciation of other cultures in students.

ID 1505 Professional Writing in English

The aim of this course is for students to: (1) Become acquainted with internationally accepted formats (résumés, reports, memos, e-mails) and analyze them in order to be able to produce them. (2) Read and analyze research papers in order to be able to replicate them, following internationally accepted formats.

ID 1400 Introductory Mandarin Chinese

The course is intended for people with no prior knowledge of the Chinese language.  Students will become familiar with the pronunciation system of the language.  They will be able to have short conversations about simple everyday matters such as greeting, introducing oneself, enquiring about the location of objects, asking  for and giving directions to common places, telling time, describing the weather, and ordering food or drinks.  They will learn common verbs such as

ID 1300 Introductory German

This course is intended for students with no prior knowledge of the German language.  Students will learn to express themselves using the simple verb tenses and basic vocabulary in order to cope with daily life situations.

ID 1200 Introductory French

This course is intended for students with no prior knowledge of the French language.  Students will learn basic vocabulary and simple verbal tenses and they will be able to name and describe objects in common situations such as the house, classroom, supermarkets, and restaurants. They will be able to compare the past with the present.

ID 1131 Advanced Spanish

Students will be able to understand native speakers of Spanish, even when not addressed directly, and to interact in most situations as native speakers do. They will be able to argue and sustain a point of view as well as to communicate complex information (like explaining processes) adapting their language to the audience.  This applies to both written and spoken communication.

ID 1125 Lower Advanced Spanish

Students will not only be able to hold a conversation, but also to change the subject and to start a conversation, lead and manipulate it.  They will be able to deal will all common daily situations and adapt to unexpected situations without communication flaws.  Students will also be able to read factual and fictional texts and write effectively about their own opinion and about facts.  At this level, students will start developing argumentation skills; they will use comple
