The consultation forums with indigenous communities of Latin America agree on their advances and frustrations, especially when it comes to protecting the environment and their territories, but Mexico generates a special subject for the dialog between ethnic groups and the State, which distinguishes it from the rest of its neighbors: the interest in political participation.
This phenomenon has been studied by Claire Elizabeth Grace Wright, a professor with the Department of Social Sciences at the Universidad de Monterrey. She followed the different processes closely and in 2014 discovered there was indigenous resistance to a district restructuring project which would divide their communities.
