Objective

The objective is to train Epidemiologists, equipped to meet the highest biopsychosocial health expectations in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and epidemiological surveillance of infectious and transmissible diseases in the population. With special emphasis on the human aspect of medicine and a primary focus on teaching and research.

In order to pursue the Specialty in Epidemiology, you should have the following knowledge:

Knowledge, based on scientific foundations, of the Epidemiology of preventable, infectious, and transmissible diseases.
Capable of applying the principles of the Natural History of Disease to infectious disease issues, based on the analysis of hereditary and environmental factors.
Proficient in laboratory methods in epidemiology, conducting tests, and having knowledge of infectious and transmissible diseases.
Deep understanding of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative medical care for infectious diseases.
Trained in the technical, medical, and administrative procedures necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
Knowledgeable about computer technologies to incorporate them into daily practice in the management of infectious diseases.
Competent in following up with patients with infectious diseases.

In order to pursue the Specialty in Epidemiology, you should have the following skills:

Provide efficient follow-up, surveillance, and care to patients under Epidemiological Surveillance.
Offer comprehensive specialized medical care to patients with Infectious Diseases.
Structure information gathered from any emerging epidemiological problem and develop prevention and disease control programs.
Utilize advanced statistical methods to address situations involving infectious diseases.
Select, analyze, and assess medical literature related to diseases under Epidemiological Surveillance, integrating relevant evidence into clinical cases.
Reflectively use prevention, diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation resources available.
Productively collaborate in interdisciplinary workgroups within the field of Epidemiological Surveillance.
Develop competencies for continuous education and professional advancement in the field of Epidemiology.
Apply the scientific method in generating new knowledge about infectious and transmissible diseases.
