Objective

Prepare the specialist in Geriatrics with theoretical and practical knowledge of the management of pathologies and diagnostic tools with the greatest impact on the elderly. These objectives are aimed at training that considers the geriatric patient in their complete biopsychosocial environment, throughout a continuum that begins with morphological, psychological, functional, and social changes, within a framework of respect for the dignity and integrity of the patient, with leadership that reflects their social responsibility and concern for the environment.

Admission Profile

Knowledge

Understand the scientific fundamentals of general medicine.
Have basic knowledge of scientific methodology and epidemiological methods.
Master Spanish language both orally and in writing.
Understand and translate from English.

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology.

You will need to have completed full training in the Specialty in Internal Medicine. Furthermore, you should possess the following knowledge:

Effectively and efficiently employ the knowledge, methods, and techniques of medical care that a specialist in geriatrics should perform both individually and as part of a team of medical specialists.
Select, analyze, and evaluate medical literature related to the Medical Specialty of Geriatrics, applying it appropriately to their daily practice to support, deepen, and expand their professional actions.
Have knowledge of various models of aging in humans, focusing on the biological aspect.
Possess knowledge of the physical, physiological, biochemical, metabolic, psychological, social, and functional changes in older individuals.
Recognize the principles of patient safety.

You will need to have completed full training in the Specialty in Internal Medicine. Furthermore, you should possess the following skills:

Apply diagnostic and treatment resources pertinent to their professional practice area critically.
Manage the conceptual, methodological, and technical foundations for the administration, organization, and implementation of social programs related to elderly care.
Utilize all available resources to integrate the elderly patient into the community.
Perform a comprehensive geriatric assessment based on the methodology of the geriatric assessment process.
Critically apply preventive, diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation resources within their specialized scope of practice.

You will need to have completed full training in the Specialty in Internal Medicine. Furthermore, you should possess the following attitudes:

Collaborate productively with the medical team that requires their daily action, striving for an integrated vision of their work in relation to the efforts of other medical professionals.
Coordinate interdisciplinary actions for the care of geriatric patients both within and outside hospital settings.
Interpret the professional development process of the physician as a human and social phenomenon, considering the institutional conditions in which the practice and teaching of medicine occur.
Uphold the practice of Geriatrics on the principles of humanism, considering the biopsychosocial integrity of the individual in constant interaction with the environment and social surroundings.
