UDEM receives distinction as first university with a Cardiovascular Tissue Bank

The Health Sciences Division at the Universidad de Monterrey has become the eighth Cardiovascular Tissue Bank nationwide and UDEM is the first university to obtain this distinction bestowed by the Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios (COFEPRIS – Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks).

Out of a total of 498 Tissue Banks registered with the Centro Nacional de Transplantes (CENATRA – National Center for Transplants), at present only seven Heart Banks operate in the country and one of them has partial registration, just for heart valves.

The Clinical Simulation Laboratory of the Universidad de Monterrey is an American Heart Association International Training Center

The Clinical Simulation Laboratory of the Universidad de Monterrey has been officially established as an American Heart Association (AHA) International Training Center. Thus, UDEM has obtained authorization to teach the courses in the Emergency Cardiovascular Care program, as it is now part of the AHA Training Center Network.

Nuevas opciones para tratamientos contra el alzhéimer

El Dr. Román Vidal Tamayo, profesor e investigador de la UDEM, y el equipo de la Dra. Viviana Zomosa, de la Facultad de Medicina de la UANL, descubrieron una variante que puede ayudar a revertir el proceso de la enfermedad de Alzheimer.

El alzhéimer es una enfermedad cognitiva, pues se caracteriza por problemas de memoria y razonamiento; degenerativa, ya que una vez que empieza el paciente empeora; e incapacitante, pues va a llegar un momento en el que este no va a poder llevar a cabo sus actividades habituales.

Telemedicine and Long-distance Clinic Room

If you want to hold in-person or long-distance (videoconference) meetings, you will be able to use the Telemedicine and Long-distance Clinic Room. It is a small facility that has a computer, a projector, a screen, and an oval table with 8 chairs.

Experimental Operating Room

The experimental OR offers a clinical field and academic sessions to undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, continuing medical education activities and events are carried out there. As a student of the Medicine, Surgery, and Midwifery and Biomedical Engineering programs, you will be able to use this laboratory.

Bone and Tissue Room

Human bones and microscopes are safekept in this area.

This facility will help you greatly in your Anatomy course for the study of bones, and in the Histology course for the microscopic study of tissues (tissues are kept in collection boxes with approximately 100 slides each, which will be provided to you to study at the Tissue Room).

Dental Simulation Laboratory

As Dentistry and Dental Surgery student, you will carry out the pre-clinical practices mandated by your undergraduate degree program before treating real patients. The procedures that you will carry out in the laboratory range from simulating dental prophylaxis (cleaning) to placing an implant.

To this end, it is essential to have high-quality, high-fidelity equipment for accurate simulation which most closely resembles a real patient’s mouth.
